Its creation is connected with the need to produce a simple and cheap car for the masses, in line with the slogan of the company director Pierre Boulanger, "quatre roues sous un parapluie" (four wheels under an umbrella). The car was maximally simplified, economical and allowed for comfortable transport of four people with luggage. Baptized as the ugliest car in the world at the Paris Salon in 1948, it became an object of desire, contrary to the critics' opinions. During 41 years of production nearly 4 million 2CVs were produced in factories around the world. Today the car has a cult status and is a treat for collectors.
