The Grille Ausf. M self-propelled gun (German for "cricket") was one of the most distinctive German designs of World War II. Based on the proven chassis of the Czech Panzer 38(t) tank, it was thoroughly redesigned. The engine was moved to the central part of the hull, and the main armament, a powerful 150 mm sIG 33 howitzer, was placed in the rear, armored superstructure.
Thanks to these changes, the Grille Ausf. M gained better stability, the ability to fire at a greater angle and more effectively supported German infantry on the front. A total of approximately 280 combat units of this machine were produced, which served both in the East and West, within armored and armored grenadier divisions.
