Do We Buy Empty LEGO Boxes & Instructions?

Do We Buy Empty LEGO Boxes & Instructions?

Do We Buy Empty LEGO Boxes & Instructions?

We get this question all the time. The short answer is that we will give you rewards points for empty LEGO Boxes and Instructions and you can use your rewards points to buy LEGO from us. It is not much, but it shows our appreciation for you storing them and not wanting to throw them away.

Many LEGO fans either throw away their empty boxes and/or instructions or they put them in storage until they get out of control and need to use that storage space for something else.

In our business, we are in constant need of replacement LEGO boxes or instructions that we can match-up with their sets. We started saving our boxes and instructions about 20 years ago and keep an updated spreadsheet of our inventory. In the past 20 years, we have had to figure out many times how to store them efficiently and effectively because they take up so much space.

Currently, we are storing our boxes and instructions in an offsite warehouse that costs us approximately $7,000 per month. We have also invested tens of thousands of dollars in our shelving and storage supplies. When we get an empty LEGO box or Instruction book in, we have to handle it 6 different times, potentially by 6 different people before it gets to its storage location. If we need or sell an empty box or instruction book, we then handle it at least 5 more times before we either match it with its set or ship it to a customer. This makes it a total of having to pay our hourly employees at least 11 times to handle one empty box or instruction book.

If this seems crazy to you, you are not alone, it sounds crazy to us as well. Probably just like you, if you are reading this post, we are obsessed with LEGO. We are obsessed with making a LEGO set complete and we hate to see anything go to waste.

After 20 years of saving (hoarding) LEGO boxes and instructions, in 2025, we have just started selling them on our website to help pay for our storage fees and expenses. Yes, they are expensive because of the cost involved with us handling/storing them and shipping may be expensive because of the dimensions of an empty LEGO box but we really do not have much control over that.

We will take your empty LEGO boxes and instructions and give you rewards points for them. It is not much, but it is something and you can be rest assured we will not "waste" your effort of keeping those boxes or instructions safe from the trash. You can buy LEGO from us with your rewards points.

We appreciate your time and effort and if you do not believe we are offering you enough for your empty boxes or instructions, we hope you can understand the costs of our effort a little better after reading this blog post.

Thank you for your time, effort and shared passion for this wonderful hobby!
